DEA Certification

License to Distribute Controlled Substances

A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification or certificate search is required for any job position that is certified to administer controlled substances.

This search is also referred to as a DEA license search. The most common positions with these licenses are doctors, veterinarians, or dentists, but the list is not limited to those jobs.

These inquiries can get tricky, though, as individuals are required to have a certificate in each state they practice in, as well as each principal place of business.

The Diversion Control Division of the US Department of Justice stores DEA license information, and it is not available to the public.

Entities need to make an account and be approved to be able to access the data. A valid DEA registration often indicates that the candidate has received proper training and education related to controlled substances. It serves as a strong indicator of their competence in relevant fields.

As a Private Investigative agency, our investigative staff does have access to the Diversion Control Division’s database, and can obtain accurate information quickly and compliantly.

A DEA license is only required for job positions that distribute controlled substances, they are not needed for importing scheduled list chemical products (SLCP), or products that contain List 1 chemicals.
